A long time ago, the Patapon Ancients fearlessly traveled in search of a land called Earthend, home to a mysterious object known as IT. Led by their god, the Mighty One, no foe or creature could stand in their way. Their adventures grew to be a legend spoken for generations. But that was the past.
Now the descendants of the Patapon Ancients live in the desolate frontier, driven from their home by the evil Zigoton army. To return to their home and vanquish their enemies, they need their god to return and beat mystic drums to lead them to victory. You are their god.
You led them through the first Patapon® world, mastering six different drumbeats to command the Patapon troops to march, attack, defend, power up, retreat, and use magic. You beat the drums of victory in Patapon® 2 with new Heroes and warriors, building an army to uncover Patapolis, an ancient place long spoken of by the Patapons. Now they need your drums once again in Patapon® 3.
Don’t let them down. thats the legend of patapon.
Patapon 1 got a lot of awards from IGN.com: Best PSP Game Best Music/Rhythm Game Best Artistic Design Best Original Score Best New IP patapon 2: Best PSP Game Best Action Game Score: 9.5/10 time for another sequel of this beat-tastic(no pun intended) game. PATAPON 3 discuss.
I’m surprised that there aren’t more people talking about the patapon 3 demo on kongregate. For the past fews weeks I have been playing the multiplayer demo and whenever I have to put away my psp, I put it on standby during the “add-hoc or infrastructure” menu (so i can continue with all the items that I got on during co-op play).
That may sound a little obsessive but i am just absolutely addicted to it ever since i first downloaded from the psp store. =).Gameplay. Although the gameplay of patapon 3 remains the same, putting in four-beat commands inorder to control your character, there a lot of new goodies featured this time around: First, in patapon 2 you could play with other psp users in add-hoc mode, but in this game you get to share the experience with other people over the internetz. And, there actually two different multiplayer modes included ( 4plyr co-op and 8plyr versus). Second, along with superhero patapons characters, there are class skills and set skills that enhance your characters powers. Class skills are unlocked if you follow specific instructions for that skill, which usually comes down to simply activating it during quests.
For example, the arrow patapon class can fire two arrows per attack-command and then, used enough, he can fire three arrows. (Others examples include an energy field for the shield patapon that boosts defense for the entire team). The set skills include power ups that boosts attack power (and other things) for certain patapons, which unlock as you level up your hero character. Third, That’s right!
You can level up your character by completing field or dungeon quests. Experience points are largely based on the enemies defeated during the quest and how quickly you finish.Starting the demo.
When you start up the demo, the start up menu leads to a new game option, which makes the player create his own name for the rest of the game (including online) and introduces the player to issue the move command. Then the game goes back the the start menu with the continue option unlocked, where real starts.
You can play add-hoc or online, and you get to choose if you want to be the host or visit another person’s game.Classes. From the beginning, you only have three class chooses (with only Lv 1 characters): A bow-and-arrow wielding patapon (Yumiyacha), a shield and sword patapon (Taterazay), and a guy with spear (Yarida). After leveling each of them up to Lv 2 you get to unlock three more characters: A tuba/horn using patapon that unleashes sound waves to bombard the enemy (Wondabarappa), a very large and powerful hammer/club wielding patapon (Tondenga), and a horse-riding, shield and spear warrior that just runs over any-sized group of enemies with ease (Kibadda).
The last three are unlocked in the respective order of the first three classes.Quests (field and dungeon). The “field quest” is the only quest that can played when first going on co-op mode. It’s a simple quest that deals with a single giant and some enemy patapons. Completing it automatically earns you a Lv2 iron treasure chest. After that, the “dungeon Quest” is unlocked, which is actually a two stage run (you can finish first stage and keep any treasure chests that you have acquired if you decide not to go on to the second stage).
If the last quest is completed, which involves fighting several giant cyclopes monsters and fire breathing dragons, then the game ends to reveal a video about what’s to be expected in the full game and unlocks versus mode permanently.Saving issue and level cap. When I mean permanently, i unfortunately refer to the fact the it is one of few things that the game leaves saved. For everyone who’s played through the demo, you know what I’m talking about. For those of you who plan to play it, hears a heads up so that you aren’t surprised: Any thing you did during co-op or versus gets reseted to how you first found it. That’s all those items you got and any leveling/unlocking you did gets reverted to only to having the the field quest available and only the default characters unlocked back to the dreaded Lv1.
=( Also, there’s a level cap at Lv5, making it the most you can ever level up.Acquiring the demo’s best items. oh well, the game is so much fun playing with other people that i just keep playing over and over I’ve actually beaten the demo three times. Sometimes I’ve even played through the first stage of the dungeon quest numerous times just to unlock any items i haven’t seen before. And that’s another thing, items At first, you only have the basic weapons and armor.
But as you gather chests, you can unlock really cool weapons that can give you the upper hand over your foes some even have special status affects (such as the “dragonlay” sword that does about three times as much damage against dragons based on the already high, original damage points it unleashes). The status effects of the game include critical attacks, knockback, stagger, burn (fire), sleep, freeze, and poison rates. The most common element encountered through out the game is most notably fire, so make sure you have extra fire protection when your questing.Plus items.
Another factor in items includes Plus items: sometimes you might see “flame spear+1” which basically just means that it’s stronger and more effective (greater fire rate) than a regular “flame spear”. So far, I have see plus 3 weapons, which are vastly stronger than the original. The last factor in items include extra status items such as “Ice shield Ar”. Ar is short for armor and give an extra defense against all physical attacks. There are other statuses such as Ic for ice damage, Hp for extra hitpoints, En for endurance and resistance against statuses affects, St for extra damage, Fl for extra flame damage, and so on.Conclusion. Wow, I’ve certainly written a lot for a demo haven’t I?
Patapon 3 certainly seems promising and I can’t wait to get the full game when it finally comes out. The only real complain I have about the game is that the only way to chat with the other players is by using preset text notes which is seriously lacking, there’s even one that says “Fire mayhem! Got a plan?” and another like “Yippee!
Shzamm!” And the only greeting is “Hello, and good day”, that’s it Well, at least the gameplay makes up for it. =) I might post some hints later, but for now I’m going to keep playing patapon 3 until my fingers melt into the buttons from all the action packed awesome hopefully sleep deprivation will catch up to me before then. Edit:I’ve categorized the post so that it is easier to find specific information, instead of reading through the whole thing. Also, it will help people who are using google and want specific answers.
One more thing! If you’re confused about something or if you have a question still unanswered about the demo, don’t hesitate to leave me a message (the only thing I’m still not sure about is the D-jinn summon, I usually repeatedly tap one button or just button smash). Well, it’s been a while since I last posted so I’m not trying to revive this thread (or bump it or whatever you want to call it) but all I want is to inform the people who have been playing the patapon 3 demo some further information about the game. Also, since the my last post was pretty long, I’ll keep this one short.Beating the game alone (ad-hoc). You.can. beat the whole demo on solo, I’ve done it and so have other people. Since some of these people have already done it and posted it on youtube(I’m not going to elaborate the whole thing, just two pieces of advice: one, use Tondenga (hammer/club), and two make sure you’re wearing plenty of ice gear with Ar attachments (don’t wear the bunny hood, unless it’s like +2 or +3) when facing the dragons.Patapon 3 removed from PS store?.
Apparently Sony decided to take off the english-version demo of patapon 3 from the PSP’s online market (psn store) so it might be too late to download the demo. But look at the bright side, the actual game is due to release in about three months (November 1st, 2010) and can be pre-orded for a measly $20(!!!! That’s about the same price most used 360 games cost, so it’s definitely worth it even if you just want to try it out (although I would recommend getting the first patapon to try out which is $10 used, and if you like it you can also get patapon 2 for another $10 new all in UMD form). Edit: If your lost and still want to download the demo, there’s a Japanese version of the game at pspdemocenter.com(which can be downloaded directly from the PSP’s internet browser (or you can download it to the computer and then transfer it to the PSP through a USB cable). Add: If you REALLY, REALLY want to download the patapon 3 english demo, then I can e-mail you the files.
I’ve already sent it to two other people (as of 9-18-10). My e-mail is [email protected](mailto:[email protected]) which i originally posted in the patapon 3 wishlist(at playstation.com. Between college and personal obligations, I don’t usually have a lot of time to post stuff as of lately And I know what I am about put up most players (of the demo) should be familiar with, but in order to complete my guide I feel that’s it necessary to put up all the facts so that I can explain the rest:.Fever mode. The demo is automatically adjusted to be played on easy mode, so making consecutive perfect beats shouldn’t be too hard at all. Each command consists of four beats, so when you enter a perfect beat you should hear a distinct sound for the button.
If you enter four perfect beats during a command you should hear a cymbal sound when you hit the last beat perfectly. After two perfect commands, you should see the sign “FEVER” on the top left.filling the fever bar. Once you see the “Fever” sign, staying in fever mode should show the bar begin to fill a little bit every time yo enter a beat (faster if you hit perfect beats, even faster if you score perfect beats for activating/maintaining hero mode). The only reason for filling the fever bar is so that you can activate the summon.patapon’s hero mode (specific). Each hero has a unique attack (or power) when they are in hero mode. In order to activate hero mode, just hit the appropriate commands perfaectly:.Yumiyacha. (bow-and-arrow): attack (pon, pon, pata, pon)= your patapon should shot a volley of red arrows (which sounds and looks more like artillery fire to me) towards the sky and come back down to hit any enemies in front of you.Taterazay.
(sword-and-shield): defense (chaka, chaka, pata, pon)= Taterazay should be holding an enlarged shield which not only increases your hero’s defense, but also creates an invisible force field around you and your teammates (reducing any damage taken by at least half).Yarida. (spear): attack (pon, pon, pata, pon)= yarida throws his spear which causes a small explosion when he is in fever mode, it becomes more effective when he is able to shoot two spears at once.Wondabarappa. (uses sound from his tuba/horn): attack (pon, pon, pata, pon)= This patapon should fire yellow/golden rings of sound from his tuba/horn at a high angle, which are stronger than his regular attack.Tondenga. (hammer/club): attack (pon, pon, pata, pon)= I personally find this patapon’s hero mode the most effective since it ignores his normally slow attack speed (due to his huge damage count), Tondega should spin quickly and hit multiple times between each attack command. Pink mask?) should also be slowly advancing as he spins.Kibadda. (horse-and-spear): charge and then attack (pon, pon, chaka, chaka→pon, pon, pata, pon)= your character should attack like normal, but there will be a shooting-star of light behind him.
His attack will not only do more damage, but he will also attack for a longer duration. Note: you don’t have to do the charge command perfectly, but the attack command does. Edit: Since I wrote a lot, my post would jumble up, so I’m continuing what I put on the next post. The next post covers all the commands.Move command. pata-pata-pata-pon (or square, square, square, circle) is the very first command you learn in all of the patapon games. Your character moves faster/farther when his Movement speed is higher (which can be checked by pressing the square button when you are in the equipment interface). Also, when you activate your character’s hero mode you are allowed to move, at anytime, once without losing hero mode (assuming that you have been tapping perfect beats before and after the move command).attack command.
pon-pon-pata-pon (or circle, circle, square, circle) is the basic command for your patapon to know it’s time to unleash some hurt on your enemies. Most of the hero modes are activated by perfectly tapping in this simple command during Fever.defense command.
Chaka-chaka-pata-pon (or triangle, triangle, square, circle) is the command needed for increasing your damage resistance on the spot. Some patapon’s will attack during the defense command, but it’s usually in a lesser form i.e. Yumiyacha (bow/arrow) will shot only one arrow and gradually back away.retreat command. Pon-pata-pon-pata (or circle, square, circle, square) this command won’t move you backwards, but it can save you from getting hit by a powerful attack. Your patapon will run quickly in the opposite direction and then instantly dash back to where he originally was by the beginning of the next command. This command is also useful for getting treasure chests that are dropped behind you.jump command. Don-don-chaka-chaka (or X,X,triangle, triangle) you guessed it, your patapon stays afloat high up for the duration of the command.
This command is useful for breaking blocks above you and for dodging certain attacks.charge command. pon-pon-chaka-chaka (or circle, circle, triangle, triangle) for a whole command, your patapon(s) wait on the spot it’s not very useful by itself, but the charge command is suppose to be followed by an attack command. Usually, you will do extra damage, but some patapon heroes have a unique attack:.Taterazay. (sword, shield) This hero will run forward as far as he can and do a spin-jump slash attack with some extra damage.Wondabarappa. (tuba/horn) I personally would stick to Hero mode (during Fever) for this one, but the only advantage of this hero’s charged attack is that his sound waves bounce more.
This is useful for attacking groups of enemies.Tondenga. (hammer/club) This hero’s charged attack is very useful as he (she?) runs forward as far as he can (like Taterazay) and does a Hulk Smash with his hammer, which is a very powerful one-hit.Kibadda. (horse, spear) Kibadda’s hero mode can only be activated as a charged attack. Edit: The next post covers summoning.Summon command. Don-Don,Don-Don,Don (or X,XX,XX) This command is actually a summon and it can only be activated as soon as your Fever bar fills up completely. If you have read the tip, then you know that the figure you summon is called D-jinn. When summoned, all patapons normally stay in hero mode for the duration of the summon and any allies who died (before the summon) get revived with full health.
The trickiest part of this summon is beating the command if you have never played any of the previous patapon games.Summoning. okay, the timing of the first Don of the command should be played normally as if doing the jump command (Don,Don,Chaka,Chaka). When you get to the second beat, Don-Don, play the second Don of this set right after the first Don The spacing/timing of the second Don-Don set should be the same as if playing a normal command.
To clarify, imagine you have the up-coming four beats, when summoning you don’t use the last beat (only the first three). Then imagine playing three Don(s) as if it were a normal command, but right after the second and third Dons, tap X (don) Don, Don’Don, Don’Don. I would recommend practicing in the first quest with Taterazay (shield) after leveling up a little and unlocking some Ar equipment If your still confused, then i recommend youtube (search “patapon summoning” and there might be a video from patapon 1 or 2, either is fine). Edit: that’s it. These last three posts where suppose to be one single post. But for some reason it would all jumble up: the post would look as if there were no spaces and all the.
for the.bold. categories would show up as actual asterisks Added: I also previously didn’t mention the party command, so here it is.Party command. Pata-Pon-Don-Chaka (or square, circle,X,triangle) This is my favorite command for dousing out those pesky fires. When used effectively, this command will not only cure you of ALL statues effects, but will also protect you from those statues effects for the duration of the command (which also includes staggers and knockbacks).
Also, this command will cure your teammates of any statues effects as well.
